A 34-year-old fella (from the UK) suffers from ‘Auto-Brewery’ (gut fermentation) syndrome where his body produces alcohol after he eats carbohydrates.

If he eats too many carbs or sugars, he feels drunkor he just goes straight to hungover.

Before being diagnosed he’d have “severe alcoholic hangovers” the morning after eating lots of carbs.

He’d get pounding headaches, severe nausea, vomiting, dehydration, dry mouth, and cold sweats. It was like he’d been out the night before drinking when he hadn’t.

Doctors finally discovered that his gut produces ethanol from yeast and it makes him feel drunk, or just really hungover.

They aren’t sure what causes it, but he’s found that if he eats mostly meat, veggies, nuts, and seeds he can control it a little.

People assume that this is just a cheap way of getting drunk, but he says it’s not worth the feeling. He says he generally feels way more hungover than he does drunk.
